Exclusive: Wilson Reis vs. Doug Evans... (viewed 324 times)
Fast-rising featherweight Wilson Reis has agreed to a return appearance on EliteXC's ShoXC series on April 5 against former UFC lightweight competitor Doug Evans, ProElite.com (SamCaplan.ProElite.com) has learned from a source close to Reis' camp.
The bout will be contested at 140 pounds. A location for the event has not been finalized but the card will most likely take place in California.
Reis, 3-0, made his debut for the promotion on January 25 in Atlantic City at the Trump Taj Mahal, where he recorded a dominant victory over former Division I wrestler Zach Makovsky. Reis, who trains out of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu United in Jenkintown, PA under Lloyd Irvin black belt Jared Weiner, submitted Makovsky at 1:15 of round 2.
Reis' previous wins took place in Ed Hsu's Combat in the Cage promotion where he defeated Baba Shegeyasu via unanimous decision in his pro debut on July 28 and submitted Diego Jimenez at 2:00 of round 1 on October 26.
The jitsu black belt has also won a number of competitive grappling tournaments.
Evans, 5-2, trains with the Wolfpack fight camp in Alaska. He entered the UFC with a perfect 5-0 record and debuted against Roger Huerta during the live finale for the fifth season of "The Ultimate Fighter" on June 23. Evans started off strong in the match but wound up losing via TKO at 3:30 of round 2.
Evans then returned to the UFC on December 29 at UFC 79, where he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Canadian grappler Mark Bocek.
There's no word whether the match between Reis and Evans will be televised during the Showtime portion of the telecast. However, based on Evans' past history in the UFC and Reis' impressive performance at the last ShoXC, their bout appears to be a lock for the main card.
