CFFC 6 and Kimbo vs. Tank canceled (viewed 615 times)

Where there's smoke, there's fire.

Just days after promoter Felix Martinez told both The Fight Network and Nick Lembo, the counsel to the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, that Cage Fury Fighting Championships 6 was still going ahead as planned, the above announcement was posted on the promotion's website earlier this afternoon.

The show was supposed to have featured a main event between Internet street fighting legend Kimbo Slice and former UFC fighter Tank Abbott along with the return of Ricardo Almeida to competitive MMA and the MMA debut of standout kickboxer Duke Roofus.

Martinez responded to rumors on the Underground forum earlier this week that CFFC 6, scheduled for next Saturday, was off by revealing that the promotion had suffered a setback when a major investor pulled out of the show. Martinez claimed that without the investor that they would not be able to televise the show on pay-per-view as had been planned but that the show would still take place and be telecast over the Internet. He went on to put a positive spin that CFFC 6 would not be airing on PPV by claiming that the promotion would be cutting costs in the process.

Apparently losing their deal with PPV distributor iNDEMAND did not cut enough costs as Martinez was unable to overcome the loss of the investor.

It will be interesting to see in coming weeks how the cancellation of the event will effect the promotion long-term and if Kimbo becomes free to sign deals with other U.S.-based promotion.
