Sam Vasquez's cause of death revealed (viewed 588 times)

Houston-based MMA fighter Sam Vasquez died from a severe brain injury, the Harris County Medical Examiner's office has ruled.

The report comes from Steve Sievert's Brawl Sports Blog at the Houston Chronicle website.

Sievert indicates that the official ruling was that Vasquez's death occurred due to "complications from blunt trauma to the head with subdural hemorrhage.

A subdural hemorrhage is described as blood vessels in the brain region rupturing with a buildup of blood building up between the brain and its outer lining. From the buildup of blood, a great deal of pressure then begins to occur.

Vasquez was pronounced dead on November 30 of last year after suffering a third round knockout against Vince Libardi during a Renegades Extreme Fighting bout that took place in Houston on October 20. He was only 35.

Vasquez was the first mixed martial artist to die as a result of injuries sustained in a sanctioned fight.
