Liddell sees no advantage for Shogun

There's still a lot of uncertainty whether a light heavyweight bout between Chuck Liddell and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua will take place in May or June, however, in Steve Sievert's Brawl Sports Blog on the Houston Chronicle web site, Liddell is fairly certain that Shogun won't have an advantage over him -- in any aspect of the fight:

"He's a good fighter ... had a great career in Pride, and I'll be glad to show him again why UFC is better than Pride. I have the edge in the standup game and the wrestling game, too. His submission game is decent, but I don't think I'll have a problem with his submission game, either."

Sievert goes on to add that he believes that winner of Liddell vs. Rua will be guaranteed a title shot:

As I've mentioned previously, I'd be shocked if the winner of this fight doesn't get the next title shot. Regardless of the outcome of Quinton Jackson versus Forrest Griffin, the biggest fight to be made at 205-lbs. involves a combination of two of these four fighters, and despite the fact that he no longer holds the belt, Liddell is still the UFC's biggest draw.

Liddell: Shogun Rua possibly next

In a new interview with John Wertheim of SI.com, Chuck Liddell indicates that his next fight could be against former PRIDE star Mauricio "Shogun" Rua:

SI.com: Just trying to throw you off your game. So what's next for you? Have you been told your next opponent?

Liddell: Possibly Mauricio "Shogun" Hua. That's what they're saying. If it's the June fight, it will probably be in London. But my trainer is trying to get it moved to Vegas. Too far. (Liddell is based in San Luis Obispo, Calif.)

Recent speculation had suggested that Liddell's next fight would be a rematch against Keith Jardine at UFC 84 on May 24.

If Liddell ends up fighting Rua, one has to wonder what's next for Jardine, who has not fought since a September upset against Liddell. Might a fight against Wanderlei Silva be in the cards?
