Exclusive: Nick Diaz expected to return... (viewed 473 times)

Graduation day has arrived for ShoXC prospect Muhsin Corbbrey, as ProElite.com (SamCaplan.ProElite.com) has learned that Corbbrey has accepted a EliteXC bout against Nick Diaz for April 26 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The news comes from a source close to Corbbrey's camp. It has not been confirmed whether Diaz has signed a bout agreement for the fight.

Corbbrey is 2-0 competing for EliteXC's ShoXC: Elite Challenger Series franchise on SHOWTIME. He made his debut against "Lethal" Lee Gibson on July 27, winning via unanimous decision. His last bout was a comeback victory over Southshore Sportfighting's Bobby McMaster during October's ShoXC. After being dominated for much of the first round, Corbbrey rallied by catching McMaster in a guillotine choke and forcing him to tap with one second left in the round.

He has competed as a professional boxer and professional Muay Thai fighter. In addition to his vast standup experience, Corbbrey has successfully competed in several grappling tournaments such as NAGA and ISCF. He trains grappling and MMA with UFC lightweight contender Din Thomas while he works with John Blanken on his standup.

If he signs for the bout, the fight will mark Diaz's first comeback fight since losing to K.J. Noons via TKO following at EliteXC: Renegade in November. The fight, which was for the vacant EliteXC lightweight title, ended in controversy after the fight was stopped following round one at the recommendation of the ringside physician. After the doctor's decision was rendered, Diaz stormed off to the locker room while displaying an obscene gesture.

The Cesar Gracie jiu jitsu black belt has a lifetime MMA record of 15-7 and holds career victories over Josh Neer, Drew Fickett, Robbie Lawler, and Chris Lytle. He is probably best known for his submission victory over Takanori Gomi at PRIDE 33 last February. The decision was eventually ruled a no contest by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after Diaz reportedly tested positive for high levels of THC.

The fight will also mark Diaz's first since undergoing eye surgery, which EliteXC live events president Gary Shaw revealed during a January conference call with the media to promote the recent Kimbo Slice vs. Tank Abbott main event that headlined "Street Certified."
