Exclusive: HBO Latin America and the IFL... (viewed 284 times)

ProElite.com (SamCaplan.ProElite.com) has learned that HBO and the IFL could announce an agreement as early as today that the IFL will begin airing on HBO Latin America in 2008.

The deal will make IFL programming available in Latin America, Brazil, and the Caribbean.

The anticipated announcement is very interesting because while HBO is only committed to televising the IFL on its Latin American channel, they still elected to go with IFL programming as opposed to other options that were available to them. One would think that if HBO decides to televise MMA on its English-language channels that the IFL has a bit of an edge.

The IFL is currently gearing up for its next card on Dec. 29. The league's finals of its World Grand Prix will be televised on Mark Cuban's HDNet at 9:30 p.m. ET. The two hour telecast will feature all five title matches.

The league is also expected to announce that Brett Cooper will step in for the injured Dan Miller in a welterweight match against Rory Markham. Cooper, a native of Los Angeles, was discovered during the league's draft tryouts in LA.

Also, Tim Kennedy, who competed on this past weekend's HDNet Fights card, is still scheduled to face Elias Rivera in a middleweight bout.
